HEATSTORE (2018-2021)

In the framework of the transnational Heatstore project, the Swiss national project of Geneva will allow the assessment of the heat storage potential for the development of a HT-ATES System connected to the waste-to-energy plant located in Cheneviers (Canton of Geneva). A modular and holistic approach will be developed addressing these following aspects:

  • Resource assessment and reservoir characterization
  • Energy modelling to integrate the HT-ATES system into the existing network
  • Economic modelling aiming at reducing the risk and the costs of a running HT-ATES system

Geothermal Energy Chance of Success (2018-2020)

GECOS is a INNOSUISSE funded project which focusses on deep geothermal exploration and development projects and is based on three main pillars:

  • Reduction of subsurface uncertainty
  • Mitigation of the risk
  • Reduction of the costs

ELEGANCY

In the framework of the Swiss Energy Strategy 2050 and in agreement with IEA, IPCC and COP21 recommendations, the Swiss scientific community aims at establishing the fundamental knowledge to support the realisation of a first pilot project in Switzerland to demonstrate, at the field scale, that CO2 storage can safely be done without causing unacceptable seismicity, fluid-mineral reactions and environmental contamination. Within the national SCCER-SoE program, the GE-RGBA group at UNIGE is involved in the investigation of the Swiss Molasse Plateau in order to describe and quantify the geological properties of the subsurface of the region spanning from Lake Geneva to Lake Constance, to select the most suitable CO2 underground storage sites.

FD-RAS

FD-RAS (Fluvio-Deltaic Reservoir Analogue Study) aims at reducing uncertainties in reservoir modelling by bringing field-based sedimentology into modelling workflows, this is accomplished using three main tools:

  • Field-based conceptual model
  • Virtual outcrop data extraction
  • Data integration
