Upcoming e-seminar: Hydropower development on the Mekong river

The next GEDT e-seminar will take place on Wednesday June 3rd, from 12h15 to 13h45. Aline Telle, will present her Ph.D. project on hydropower development on the Mekong river.

Aline is interested in the rapid development of hydro-power projects in the Lower Mekong Basin, more specifically in Lao PDR. Her doctoral thesis analyzes the translation of international environmental principle in the context of an international river basin organisation as well as the local consequences of multilevel governance. Inscribing her work in the field of critical legal studies, she argues that the Lower Mekong Basin is an example of an uncoordinated legal framework with diverse objectives, creating discrepancies between general frameworks set out at the international level and the demand for a context-specific implementation solution at the transboundary and national level.
