Mikaël Pittet wins the Vaud Academic Prize

Mikaël Pittet is the 2023 winner of the Academic Outreach Prize awarded by the Vaud Academic Society. Professor and holder of the ISREC Foundation Chair in Immuno-Oncology in the Department of Pathology and Immunology and the Translational Research Centre in Onco-Haematology (CRTOH) in the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine, he is also a member of the Swiss Cancer Centre - Léman (SCCL) and of the Lausanne Branch of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. Mikaël Pittet has had an outstanding scientific career, first in the United States and, since 2020, in Switzerland, at the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne.

A specialist in cancer immunotherapy, he is seeking to discover how the immune system controls cancer, and how it can be exploited for therapeutic purposes, in particular by improving the efficacy of immunotherapeutic strategies. His work has identified how certain cancers are regulated by various immune cells, including cytotoxic T cells, regulatory T cells, macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, and dendritic cells.

Established in 2014, and awarded this year for the 5th time, the prize recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to academic excellence in Switzerland and around the world.
