Proposal Writing Workshop
Workshop led by Dr A. Trabesinger, offered by your RGO
What
As early-career researchers venture towards scientific independence, proposal writing becomes an ever more important activity. In this workshop, Dr Andreas Trabesinger will present context, tools and perspectives related to writing up scientific ideas and to effectively communicating key points to reviewers, based on his experience as a scientific consultant, science writer and a former editor at Nature Physics.
In addition, the Research and Grants Office will provide an overview of upcoming calls for proposals addressed to postdocs.
Who
(Primarily) Postdoctoral researchers working at UNIGE
Doctoral students who are enrolled at UNIGE and are about to defend their thesis are also welcome within the capacity limits

Provisional agenda
Inputs are possible when registering:
- The path from idea to funding (60 min)
- Key elements of scientific storytelling (90 min)
- Language and style (60 min)
- Case studies (120 min)
- The role of AI tools in scientific writing (30 min).
Learning outcome
- Learn about the essential elements of scientific storytelling
- Gain insights into typical reviewing processes
- Learn techniques for writing clear and enticing texts
Approach
- Broad overview of all the roles involved, from presenting yourself, to interacting with reviewers, to involving your host institution
- Discussion of key points of how to construct a coherent, well-rounded and compelling story
- Practical and directly applicable advice through specific case studies
