Templates for declaring the use of generative artificial intelligence

The declaration of the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) is based on the following principles:

  • Each teacher declares and defines the rules for using GAI in their teaching.

  • The level of detail (granularity) required in the declaration from students is defined by the instructor based on the type of work requested. This granularity must remain pragmatic and not excessively increase the workload, while allowing for clear identification of the parts generated or modified by GAI.

Examples of declarations include:

  • At the beginning of the semester, each student indicates whether he or she plans to use GAI tools. This declaration can be made via a Moodle form or any other means defined by the instructor.

  • If the student wishes to change the use of AI as previously declared, he or she must submit a new declaration corresponding to the work concerned.

  • For each assignment, lab report, or written work, and according to the instructor's instructions, the student must specify in which parts and to what extent AI was used, following the recommended template below (which can be modified by each instructor according to the needs of the course).

  • The declaration is mandatory for all Bachelor's, Master's, and doctoral thesis work, according to the template recommended below.

Each individual piece of work submitted to a teacher must comply with the declared option regarding the use or non-use of AI, in accordance with the two possibilities described below:

Option A – No use of GAI

I declare that I have not used any generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools in the context of this work.

Option B – Declared use of one or several GAI tools

I declare that I have used one or more generative artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, DALL·E, DeepL, etc.) for the following tasks:

  1. Generating ideas or plans: yes / no

  2. Writing text or content: yes / no

  3. Text summarization or synthesis: yes / no

  4. Linguistic correction or rephrasing: yes / no

  5. Text translation: yes / no

  6. Computer code generation:

    • Partial generation (structure defined by the student, completed with the help of the tool): yes / no

    • Complete generation (code produced from start to finish by the tool based on instructions): yes / no

Note: Simple autocomplete features—such as adding a closing parenthesis, completing a common keyword, or automatic indentation—are not considered to be AI usage. Partial generation means that the student designs the structure, logic, or functions of the code themselves and uses the tool to complete certain elements. Full generation refers to code generated in response to instructions without significant student involvement in its design.

  7. Creation of synthetic data from real data: yes / no

  8. Data augmentation: yes / no

  9. Automated data analysis (e.g., classification, clustering, visualization): yes / no

  10. Generation of scientific illustrations or diagrams: yes / no

  11. Assistance in solving a scientific problem (mathematical, physical, etc.): yes / no

  12. Any other task (to be specified): .........................................................

Declaration certifying the original and authentic nature of the work

I certify that I have read the Directive governing the use of artificial intelligence for the performance of work.

I confirm that this work is the result of my own work, that it has been written independently, that all sources of information I have used are cited completely and accurately, and that any use of generative AI is reported in accordance with the instructions I have received from my teachers.

I acknowledge that any omission of sources and any fictitious, inaccurate, or incomplete citations constitute plagiarism and/or fraud and are therefore serious offenses punishable by sanctions within the University.

Consequently, I declare on my honor that this work is entirely original.

Sanctions for misuse

Any unauthorized or concealed use of AI may be considered a violation of academic integrity rules, in the same way as plagiarism.
