Ajit Srivastava received his PhD in Applied Physics from Rice University (USA) in 2009. After working as a postdoctoral researcher and then as a senior scientist at ETH Zurich, he joined Emory University (USA) as an assistant professor in 2016, before becoming an associate professor in 2020. At the same time, he has been Honorary Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University (Australia) since 2019.
A specialist in the field of nanostructure optics, Ajit Srivastava is particularly interested in electronic systems based on two-dimensional materials, a research area considered a priority within the Department of Quantum Matter Physics.
He studies light-matter interactions in low-dimensional materials, focusing on quantum, geometrical and topological aspects.
An internationally recognized expert, in 2022 he was awarded a 5-year ERC Consolidator grant from the European Union for his project "Tunable Interactions in 2D materials for Quantum Matter and Light: TuneInt2Quantum".
For the duration of his ERC Consolidator project, Ajit Strivastava will be appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Quantum Matter Physics at the Faculty of Science on June 1, 2023.
