Master in quantum science and information

This new Master's programme brings together part of the former 'Applied Physics' Master's programme, which now focuses solely on quantum information, and the former 'Condensed Matter Physics' Master's programme. The programme will be divided into two departments with the same number of compulsory credits, sharing a course in the spring semester in order to mark the link between the two programmes.

  • Quantum Materials will include the compulsory courses Quantum Light and Matter, Phase Transitions, Quantum Materials 1 & 2, Laboratory IV and Current topics in Quantum ScienceResearch, which is shared with Quantum Optics. The elective courses Quantum Information Theory, Quantum Transport and Topological Matter and Selected topics in Quantum Information are particularly recommended for this major.
  • The Quantum Optics orientation, which will include as compulsory courses, in addition to the aforementioned Current topics in Quantum Science Research, also Laser-Matter interaction, Optics and Quantum Communcation, Quantum Optics, Quantum Information Theory and Laboratory IV. All other courses will be optional. Compared with the previous version of the Master's degree, the "Compulsory B courses" will be abolished (they included non-linear systems and other courses that are now part of the "Physics of complex systems" specialisation). The elective courses Quantum Light and Matter, Biophotonics, Selected topics in Quantum Information and Introduction to Nano Electronics will be particularly recommended for this specialisation.
