«Use of biomarkers in clinical practice is getting popular among physicians to aid making diagnostic and prognostic decisions. In certain areas of biomedicine, biomarker analysis has been incorporated to daily-practice  (i.e.the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction ,troponins). Recently there has been a great interest for their use in neurovascular diseases to help physicians in various stages of the evaluation of stroke, from predicting the risk of suffering a stroke among healthy individuals to getting the biochemical diagnosis of stroke or using biomarkers as tools for outcome prediction. Dr Joan Montaner, neurologist, director of the Neurovascular Research Laboratory at the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) as well the Director of the Stroke Programme, IBIS-HVR-HVM, in Sevilla  has one of the most active groups in translational research in the field of stroke biomarkers.»
