Admission Criteria (for all applicants)

Academic requirement:  2 years of legal studies

Language Requirement: Fluent in English or French. No language certificate is required. Nevertheless, a minimum level of English B2-C1 according to the Common European Framework is highly recommended.

Application procedure

Instruction A :
For external student not participating in ERASMUS or another exchange programme 

If you are not taking part in an exchange programme and are not currently enrolled as a student at the University of Geneva, in addition to the CTL admission criteria you will be required to meet the general criteria for admission. Provided that you do fulfil the general admission conditions, requests for enrolment at the University of Geneva need to be directed to the Admission Department. For conditions, procedures and deadlines please consult the Online Admission Guide. Please also refer to the English corner of the admission website.

Application Deadline

28 February (for the autumn semester, for students who need a visa)

30 April (for the autumn semester, for students who don't need a visa)

30 September (for the spring semester, for students who need a visa)

30 November (for the spring semester, for students who don't need a visa)

3-Step Application

 Step 1

Complete the online application form on ORISIS in order to enrol at the University of Geneva and pay the 65CHF enrolment fee at the end of the online form. Your application will only be considered after this payment has been received which must be before the application deadline.

Step 2

Submit all your supporting documents within the application deadline mentioned above at the address indicated below. The necessary documents are listed in an appendix to the enrolment application form. This list contains in particular:

  • Two completed and printed online application forms (dated and signed) with a passport photo attached to both.
  • Certified true copies of your secondary school diplomas and university degrees already obtained*
  • Certified true copies of grades obtained in all university exams, along with an explanation including the range of grades available*
  • Certified true copies of grades obtained in the final three years of secondary school*
  • Copy of your passport (indicating surname, first name, nationality)
  • A complete CV including details of all stages of your education

Step 3

The above requirements concern the enrolment at the University of Geneva. For your registration for the ‘Certificate in Transnational Law’ at the Faculty of Law, the following documents are required:

  • Curriculum Vitae (in English, French or German)
  • Copy of your Secondary School Diploma and all University degrees already obtained*;
  • Proof of grades obtained in university exams, proving two years of legal studies*.

* A certified translation must be provided for all documents in a language other than English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

* A certified translation must be provided for all documents in a language other than English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.
