Loïc Riom works at the University of Lausanne and teaches at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. He holds a PhD in science and technology studies (Centre de sociologie de l'innovation de l'École supérieure des Mines de Paris), where he conducted on the economization of intimate and secret concert formats.

More broadly, his research interests lie at the intersection of the sociology of music and market studies. He collaborated with the Fondation romande pour la chanson et les musiques actuelles (Fcma), PETZI (Swiss federation of music venues and festivals), the Centre National de la Musique in France and the Cultural Heritage & Innovation Center at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne.

His current investigations focus on Music Tech and investments in the music industry.
