WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF THE LIFESPAN DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP!

RESEARCH AREAS

The Lifespan Developmental Psychology research group pursues interdisciplinary research on human development all along the life course.

For example, we investigate the development of vulnerability from childhood to old age, the accumulation of reserves (e.g., cognitive reserve, relational reserve, etc.) during the life course and their role for the processes of vulnerabilisation, such as the role of reserves in attenuating cognitive decline, e.g. in stressful life phases, and the interdependence of the different reserve domains.

To better understand the underlying mechanisms, we are studying them in a variety of individuals in different vulnerabilising situations, for example in socio-economically disadvantaged children and adults, patients with clinical disorders, pregnant women, etc.

We are also interested in the developmental interdependencies of multiple aspects of human functioning, such as cognitive performance, physical condition, well-being, and different activities across the lifespan.

Additionally, our research aims to shed light on inter-individual differences linked to, for example, the role of personality, the role of gender, the role of different life events, the role of context and environment, etc.

We address our research questions using advanced statistical methods such as secondary data analyses of large longitudinal interdisciplinary databases, but also using experimental methods in the laboratory and online.

We have established a network of Swiss and international colleagues from various disciplines including psychology, sociology, economics, demography, sports science, medicine, and technology to tackle the multidimensional facets of our different research lines.
