A book chapter on calcium and phagocytosis

Phagocytosis, i.e. the engulfment of large particles by a cell, plays a key role in immune responses: immune cells act as phagocytes to identify and destroy invaders that would otherwise make us sick.

In their recent book chapter published in Molecular and Cellular Biology of Phagocytosis, researchers from the group of Prof. Nicolas DEMAUREX and the group of Prof. Paula NUNES-HASLER describe the role of calcium in phagocytosis. They discuss in details the mechanisms and ion channels involved in the generation of the Ca2+ signals that control phagocytosis.
