A researcher awarded by the French Kidney Foundation

Sophie de Seigneux, full professor in the Department of Medicine, clinical affiliate in the Department of Cellular Physiology and Metabolism of the Faculty of Medicine of the UNIGE and head physician of the Nephrology and Hypertension Service of the HUG, is the winner of the 2022 Prize of the French Kidney Foundation, the first Swiss to be so distinguished.

This prize, created on the occasion of World Kidney Day, is awarded to a French-speaking researcher who makes an outstanding contribution to the advancement of knowledge, to the animation of research and to the international influence of French-speaking nephrology.

Professor de Seigneux is being rewarded for her work on the pathophysiology of renal disease, and in particular for her studies on metabolic alterations during renal diseases. She specialises in chronic renal failure and has been awarded SNSF Ambizione and Eccellenza grants and the Stern-Gattiker Prize of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences. She combines her research work with her clinical and managerial practice.
