Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Cytoskeleton

Cells have a complex actin and microtubule cytoskeleton network. This network is essential for many processes in cells: cell migration, division, differentiation….

We aim to understand how the cytoskeleton is organized and regulated in space and time, resulting in a functional architecture. To understand the underlying principles, we study the cytoskeleton dynamics, mechanics and interactions using divers systems: cell lines, diatoms and purified proteins.

FEATURED NEWS

How do electric fields shape life?

We are excited to announce that our international research project has been awarded CHF 9 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation over six years.

Together with Guillaume Salbreux (UNIGE) and Marin Barisic (Danish Cancer Society), we will investigate how electric fields and ionic conditions influence cellular organization through a new framework of “active electric matter.”

......and we are recruiting Postdocs!

Our group is expanding, and we are looking for postoctoral researchers to join our team. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in in vitro approaches to investigate cytoskeletal dynamics, mechanics and organization.

Congratulations, Cornelia!

Cornelia has received the PSLS Annual Thesis Prize 2026! Well done and trully well-deserved!
