Generative AI Mosaic

The Generative AI Mosaic is a fun, collaborative two-hour workshop with teaching methods directly inspired by The Climate Fresk and the Digital Collage. The primary goal is to raise awareness and educate participants, enabling them to understand how generative AI tools work and the scale and complexity of associated risks. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to adopt and apply the best practices recommended by the University of Geneva in its guide to using generative AI.

About

The workshop is designed as a dynamic introduction to complement the institution's position statement, published on 1 July 2024, and the practical guide on the use of generative AI, published by the University in September of the same year. The workshop aims to explain the main technical aspects of how generative AI works and then to initiate discussions among participants on the associated risks and best mitigating practices. It is intended to be conducted in person.

Developed by the University of Geneva's Transformation Office under a CC BY-ND 4.0 licence, the workshop is free to use, provided that the University of Geneva is cited. We recommend prior participation in a fresco, and that you have contacted us. Changes or commercialisation are prohibited. Currently, there are both a French version and an English version.

In practice

Participants are divided into teams of four to eight people. They receive the cards in batches and read the written information aloud. The facilitator encourages discussion among the participants, helping them to express their feelings and deepen their understanding of the subject.

General outline

The different pieces

There are four sets of cards. The first two sets cover the visible and invisible processes involved in AI functioning. The third set addresses the inherent risks, while the fourth set focuses on the best practices recommended by the university for mitigating these risks.

In conclusion

This team-building workshop is designed to convey information that can sometimes be difficult to understand, while also empowering participants. They can take the cards home and facilitate the workshop in their own circles. The goal is to promote the spread of best practices throughout the institution!
