Nickel!
What if playing games could transform our digital habits?
Nickel! is a serious game designed and developed by the University of Geneva's Transformation Office to raise awareness, in a fun and engaging way, of the environmental impact of digital technology and best practices for reducing it.
Why a game?
Changing digital technology usage habits is challenging: our brains resist change and tend to cling to habits. Although poster campaigns and one-off workshops are useful, they struggle to create a real impact. Games, on the other hand:
-
Capture attention through enjoyment.
-
Create emotional engagement
-
Promote cooperation and active learning.
-
Transform ideas into concrete actions.
In short, they enable people to experience change.
The concept
Each player is a user of technology who must protect their devices from unforeseen events such as viruses, breakdowns, drops and obsolescence.
In order to survive and score life points, you must:
-
Make strategic decisions
-
Use accessories or best practices
-
Pool resources
-
Adapt to unforeseen circumstances
Who is Nickel! for?
The game was designed for members of the university community, including students, teachers, and administrative staff. However, it is also ideal for college students, young professionals, and anyone looking to adopt more responsible digital behaviour.
