kerosene and camphene

Domestic fuels used for cooking and lighting. The first US patent for paraffin (the UK term for kerosene) was taken out in 1852 by James Young; Abraham Gesner trademarked “kerosene” in 1854 and in that year production began in New York. Kerosene overtook camphene – a mix of turpentine and ethanol – as a widely used domestic mineral oil.
