SUMMARY (Ridvan Askin, edited Deborah Madsen):

Lulu's Library collects 32 of Louisa May Alcott's stories in three volumes. Among these typical tales of moral education, three stand out in particular for their intersectional engagement with the ethical and moral consequences of consumption through the issues of animal welfare, moral education, and proper diet. Separate bibliographical entries are provided for each of these texts: "Baa! Baa!," "The Brownie and the Princess," and "The Candy Country."

These stories are driven by character and dialogue, a narrative strategy that allows Alcott both directly to express her pedagogical and moral program and also to focus on children's affective ways of being in the world, which are often depicted as innocent and thus morally uncorrupted.
