NOTE: Although repeatedly attributed to him, this book is not authored by Graham. It is copyrighted to the publisher, William Applegate, who may indeed be the author. Other sources attribute authorship to A. E. Foote (National Library of Medicine), Evert Jansen Wendell (Southern Adventist University's The Foodies' Guide to Vegetarian Cookery in 19th Century America Collections), or simply “a student or follower of Sylvester Graham” (International Vegetarian Union).

Throughout the book, which provides an overview (including testimonials) and defense of Grahamism, Sylvester Graham is consistently referenced in the third person.
