Language Test

For DESTINATIONS where French is not the language of instruction, you must provide proof of language proficiency, depending on your host university. It is possible to sit an internal English or Spanish proficiency test. for internal selection at UNIGE and this may, in some cases, be accepted by your host university as proof.

If you apply for a destination where French is not the language of instruction, it is necessary to provide proof of language proficiency (TOEFL or other). If you do not have a certificate proving English or Spanish proficiency, you will need to pass the UNIGE internal language test and be certified as having a level B2 or C1.

Please note, in some cases the UNIGE test is not deemed sufficient for your final application to the host university; for English, the TOEFL/IELTS test will be required in addition.

Students at the FTI and the English Department are exempt from providing proof of English proficiency at the time of submitting the internal exchange application, but will eventually be asked to provide it when they register with the host institution (for example in the case of non-Swiss/European citizens staying in the UK for more than 6 months).

The English and Spanish tests are managed and administered by the Maison des Langues. More information (date, registration, description).
