During my stay

Going on holiday or planning a long absence?

You may be authorized to sublet your accommodation for up to three months, provided that you meet the conditions set out in the directive Sous-location du logement

Are you enrolled in an outgoing exchange programme with the Academic Mobility Office?

You may temporarily suspend your lease, and your period of absence will not be counted toward the maximum three-year lease duration.

Please read the conditions set out in the directive Echange académique - résiliation provisoire

In case of lost, stolen, or forgotten keys

  • Inform the BLOG immediately.

  • A duplicate key can be provided upon request. The loan is free for up to 10 days; after that period, a fee of CHF 200 will be charged.

  • Never change the lock yourself. The locking system is complex and protected. Any unauthorized intervention may result in replacement costs of up to CHF 500.

Outside office hours (8:00–18:00)

If you lose or forget your key outside office hours:

  • First try to find a temporary solution with a neighbour or friend.

  • If this is not possible, you may contact the University’s Internal Security Centre, available 24/7, at +41 22 379 12 22.

Important:

  • During office hours, assistance is free of charge.

  • Any immediate intervention outside these hours will incur a charge of CHF 320 (incl. VAT).

In case of theft

If your keys have been stolen:

  • Replacement will be free of charge at any time, provided that you submit an official police report confirming the theft.

Lost keys for several days?

If you believe you have simply misplaced your key, it is recommended to contact the Lost and Found Office (Rue des Glacis-de-Rive) after a period of 10 days.

You may request a change of room or residence, subject to the following conditions:

  • you must have lived in your current accommodation for at least 3 months;

  • the request must be submitted no later than 6 months before the end of your lease;

  • you must be up to date with your rent payments.

👉 Submit your request using the request form

The Housing Office (BLOG) may carry out inspections of your accommodation, mainly to:

  • check the maintenance of both shared and private areas;

  • identify any damage or technical issues (leaks, deterioration, broken furniture, etc.).

These visits are always announced in advance, within a reasonable timeframe, via your etu.unige.ch email address.

During the visit, we ask you to:

  • keep your accommodation clean and tidy;

  • clean the sanitary facilities;

  • raise the blinds;

  • clean the kitchens, including refrigerators, ovens, and microwaves;

  • report any issues or observations.

Please note: If the level of maintenance is considered insufficient, more frequent inspections may be scheduled.

⚠️ As a tenant, you are required to allow access to your accommodation for inspections announced in advance.

Living in a student residence means being part of a dynamic, friendly and intercultural community. However, to ensure that shared living remains pleasant for everyone, respecting common living rules is essential.

We count on you to :

  • Clean the kitchen and bathroom after use

  • Keep personal belongings tidy and avoid cluttering shared spaces

  • Participate in shared household tasks (especially in shared apartments or villas)

  • Respect quiet hours in the residence between 22:00 and 07:00

  • Ask your guests to leave by 23:00 at the latest

  • Not accommodate third parties without prior authorization

  • Not bring illegal items or substances into the residence

  • Always prioritize dialogue — and contact the BLOG if necessary

Respect, discretion, and tolerance are essential for maintaining a harmonious living environment.
