Upon my arrival

A bank guarantee or security deposit is mandatory for every tenant. It serves to cover any potential damages identified at the end of your stay, as well as any financial obligations related to the lease.

This guarantee must cover the entire duration of your lease and may take one of the following forms:

  • Bank guarantee: an amount blocked in a bank account opened in your name.

  • Rental guarantee: a contract taken out with an approved rental guarantee company.

Proof of the bank guarantee or rental guarantee must be provided before your arrival in the accommodation. It is therefore essential to start the necessary arrangements in advance.

When your lease is handed over to you, you will receive a check-in inspection list together with a cleaning checklist.

It is important to complete both documents carefully and accurately, as they will serve as the reference for the move-out inspection. They allow us to distinguish between any damage that already existed when you moved in and any damage that may occur during your stay.

Please take the time to check carefully:

  • the condition of the furnitures

  • the curtains

  • the walls, floors and ceilings

  • the light fittings and electrical outlets

  • the cleaning checklist

Please note: the release of your bank guarantee depends directly on the condition in which you return your accommodation. A complete and accurate move-in inspection report is therefore your best protection.

Residences managed by the Housing Office (BLOG) are equipped with protected security lock cylinders, also known as master key systems. This means that only the BLOG is authorized to order duplicate keys through a unique security certificate. No copies can be made outside this system.

Upon your arrival, you will receive the keys required for your accommodation. These keys will allow you to access:

  • the main entrance of the residence

  • your room or studio

  • your mailbox

For assistance in case of lost or stolen keys, please refer to the lost or Stolen in the during my stay section.

All our residences are equipped with Wi-Fi access.

You will receive your login details by email upon your arrival.

The connection is intended primarily for academic use. In case of inappropriate use, sanctions may apply.

If you experience any issues, please check first the configuration of your device.

Although the Housing Office (BLOG) covers accidental damage caused to the property of the accommodation, your personal belongings are not insured. It is therefore strongly recommended that you take out individual household insurance, which will cover your personal items (computer, clothing, etc.) in the event of theft, water damage, or fire.

Personal liability insurance is also essential to cover damage you may cause to third parties (for example, if you accidentally spill a glass of water on a roommate’s laptop), as well as damage that may occur in your accommodation. The Housing Office reserves the right to charge tenants for repairs related to damage that cannot be considered normal wear and tear.

This type of coverage is usually offered as a combined liability and household insurance package by most insurance providers.

Taking care of your accommodation helps ensure a pleasant living environment throughout your stay in Geneva. A well-maintained living space contributes to your daily comfort, helps prevent technical issues, and avoids unnecessary costs at the end of your lease. It also makes any maintenance interventions easier, protects the furniture provided, and helps maintain a healthy environment for you and your roommates.

Regular maintenance is also important to comply with the rules established by the University and its property partners. By keeping your accommodation in good condition, you help ensure that the next student can benefit from a quality living space, in a spirit of solidarity and shared responsibility.

By adopting a few simple habits — cleaning regularly, airing out the rooms, and checking the condition of the installations — you contribute to the sustainability of the University’s housing stock and to a positive living experience for the entire community.
