A review on membrane contact sites

The endoplasmic reticulum is the largest organelle of the cell and participates in multiple essential functions, some of which require an intimate coupling with mitochondria. The physical interface between both endoplasimic reticulum and mitochondria acts as a signaling hub that tunes the function of both organelles in a bidirectional manner and controls essential cellular functions.
