A new head for the Section of Fundamental Medicine

 

As of April 1 2024, Prof. Pierre COSSON takes on the challenge of leading the Section of Fundamental Medicine of University of Geneva Faculty of Medicine, with Prof. Mirco SCHMOLKE as a vice-president. The research of the more than fifty laboratories from the Section of Fundamental Medicine focuses on questions ranging molecular mechanism of cellular function to the biology of microorganisms, from the pathophysiology of major diseases to neural basis of behavior and human genetics.

Prof. Pierre COSSON joined the University of Geneva in 1997, becoming Full Professor in the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism in 2007. His laboratory’s research is centered on the links between intracellular transport and immunology, with a specific focus on how phagocytic cells ingest and eliminate bacteria, pathogenic or not, using Dictyostelium as a model organism.
