Yamama Naciri appointed Adjunct Professor

On January 1, 2024, Yamama Naciri was appointed adjunct professor in the Department of Plant Sciences.

Bio-express:
Yamama Naciri obtained her PhD in quantitative genetics in 1992 from the Université Paris-Sud Orsay. She then took up a research post at the Institut français de recherche et d'exploitation de la mer (La Tremblade, Charentes Maritime, France), where she was in charge of a flat oyster breeding program. In 1996, Yamama Naciri moved to Switzerland and pursued her career with a post-doctorate at the Institute of Ecology, University of Lausanne, financed by the Marie-Heim Vögtlin Fund of the SNSF. In 1999, she joined the Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève (CJBG) as a research fellow in charge of the molecular genetics and phylogeny laboratory. She was appointed Curator of the CJBG and Head of the Systematics and Mediation Unit in 2015. Yamama Naciri has been teaching on a voluntary basis at UNIGE since 2010, before becoming a lecturer in the Department of Plant Sciences in 2014.
Yamama Naciri is internationally recognized for her research into delineating species boundaries, characterizing their intraspecific genetic diversity and reconstructing their evolutionary history and relationships within genus. She is interested in the phenomenon of evolutionary radiation, seeking to account for it using new massive sequencing technologies and to understand the biotic and abiotic reasons for it, particularly in Madagascar. She has numerous publications to her credit, as well as contributions to collective works. She has also been co-responsible for several major scientific mediation projects at the CJBG.
