Postdoc Position in Experimental Astrophysics

The Department of Nuclear and Particle Physics (DPNC) of the University of Geneva has an immediate opening for a Postdoc Position in Experimental Astrophysics.

 

We are offering a postdoctoral physicist position to an outstanding and highly motivated candidate to join the Space Astroparticle Physics group to work on instrument development and multimessenger astrophysics studies with the POLAR-2 mission, a Gamma-Ray Burst polarimeter that will be launched in 2027.

 

The DPNC group is a key participant in several astroparticle and astrophysics space mission, including POLAR, the predecessor of POLAR-2. The group is leading the POLAR-2 project with major responsibilities in the development of the POLAR-2 polarimeter.

 

We are looking for a recent Ph.D graduate to play a leading role in the polarimeter development effort, in particular in the prototype test and calibration, and to contribute to the preparation of exploiting the POLAR-2 science data, in particular in the area of GRB polarimetry, and its implication in multiwavelength and multimessenger joint data analysis.

 

The position is for a fixed term of 2 years, with possibility of extension. The candidate is required to have a Ph.D in experimental particle, astroparticle or astrophysics and to have demonstrated the ability to independently complete a complex physics measurement or a hardware project. Experience with particle detector hardware and advanced data analysis techniques will be a strong asset.
