Baumann-Pauly: ‘Human rights and climate change are two sides of the same coin’

One of the goals of GSEM Professor Dorothée Baumann-Pauly when she launched the Geneva Center for Business and Human Rights (GCBHR) in 2019, was to understand how Europe’s financial institutions were addressing human rights. Her research, conducted across six countries, and surveying financial institutions with a combined €14.5 trillion of assets under management, resulted in a study published at the end of 2020.

In an interview with Geneva Solutions, Prof. Baumann-Pauly discussed the results of her survey; how the social factor of environmental, social, governance (ESG) has received less attention than the environmental dimension; preparing GSEM graduates to address the human rights challenges that the financial industry is facing, and the other projects her and her team are working on at the GCBHR.
