Certificate of specialisation in linguistics - postgraduate program
Since 2007, the Department of Linguistics has offered a postgraduate program designed to provide additional training in linguistics to any student who has earned a Master’s degree in linguistics from the University of Geneva or any other program deemed equivalent. This Certificate of Specialization is primarily intended for students interested in pursuing doctoral studies: it can serve as a refresher course before entering a doctoral program and/or as a way to deepen one’s training at the beginning of a doctoral program.
The program is based on the three areas of specialization of the Department of Linguistics: syntax, semantics, and experimental linguistics. It consists of three modules. The first two modules allow students to consolidate or deepen their knowledge in two of these fields or their interfaces. The third module involves writing an original paper in one of these fields or interfaces (potentially related to the future doctoral dissertation) and engaging with the work of visiting researchers as part of the Department of Linguistics’ research seminar.

Future applications: procedure for applicants depending on their status:
There are two scenarios:
Applicants from outside the Faculty of Humanities UNIGE must use the e-candidatures platform (non-Swiss qualifications, Swiss qualifications, re-enrolment, change of faculty, enrolment in a second faculty)
For applicants already enrolled at the Faculty of Humanities at UNIGE, applications are processed internally, without going through the platform. The internal process remains the simplest procedure: MA students in Linguistics submit their applications directly to the Linguistics Study Committee, specifically to the professor in charge of the programme, who decides whether or not to admit them. The academic advisor Olivier Frutiger then receives the application and takes the necessary steps to enrol the candidate directly.
