After obtaining his M.D. degree in 1988, Gürkan Kaya did a PhD on molecular biology at the University of Geneva and Harvard Medical School that he completed in 1996. He received his specialist title in Dermatology in 2002 and in Dermatopathology in 2003. Since 2011, he has been the Head of the Dermatopathology Unit of the Departments of Dermatology and Clinical Pathology of the University Hospital of Geneva. Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva since 2014. Past-President of the Swiss Group of Dermatopathology, Past-President of the Organizing Committee of the XXXII Symposium of the International Society of Dermatopathology and the 93rd Annual Meeting of the Swiss Society of Dermatology and Venereology, held in Geneva in 2011 and past member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Dermatopathology. Involved in translational research projects, his work focuses mainly on the molecular mechanisms of skin atrophy, use of novel molecular technologies in the early diagnosis of skin tumors and dermatotoxicopathology. Currently President of the European Society of Dermatopathology, Chairman of the Skin Aging Task Force of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and Editor-in-Chief of the journal « Dermatopathology ».
