July 4 2023: PhD defence of Mr Tahir Idris
On the 4th of July , Mr Tahir Idris successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "Mechanisms Underlying the Polarization of Cystic Fibrosis Airway Epithelial Cells". His thesis was conducted under the direction of Pr. Marc Chanson from the Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism.
Cystic fibrosis is a common genetic disease that arise in particular from a loss of polarity of airways' cells. Despite considerable therapeutic advances, this disease still causes severe respiratory infections that reduce patient life expectancy. During his PhD thesis, Tahir Idris investigated the polarization of airways' cells with the aim to develop new therapies against these respiratory infections.
