To the origins of stress granules

Stress induces in cells the formation of aggregates containing proteins and RNAs, called stress granules. As stress granules are associated with some neurodegenerative diseases and cancers, understanding how they form is of great interest to the medical world.

In their recent study published in Current Biology, researchers from the group of Prof. Monica Gotta  highlighted the importance of a protein called UBAP2L in the formation of stress granules. Their experiments demonstrated that UBAP2L is part of the core structure of stress granules and it is one of the first actors in stress granule assembly.
