What's new for your research data

Your research data is at the heart of our concerns. Our “Recherche & Information Scientifique” (RISe) department, created three years ago to unite IT forces in the service of research, is constantly striving to develop high-performance tools to create, enhance and perpetuate your work. To mark the start of the new academic year, we are pleased to present some of our latest developments, deployed as part of the “Infrastructures et services numériques pour la recherche” program.

A computing cluster at campus biotech

Three high-performance computing clusters are now available for generating computational data and algorithms. The latest, the “Bamboo cluster”, was commissioned last July at Campus Biotech. These computing farms are part of the company's strategy to develop generative artificial intelligence.  > Find out more

A new platform for the exchange of active, open data: HEDERA

Launched this spring, HEDERA is a new digital infrastructure service dedicated to hosting and perpetuating research data. Based on digital humanities standards for sharing visual resources, HEDERA facilitates interoperability and access to data. The service offers comprehensive solutions, including secure hosting on UNIGE servers with worldwide access, advanced image management supporting various formats (IIIF) and, thanks to its compatibility with the Yareta system, long-term archiving of research data, ensuring compliance with the requirements of research projects such as those of the SNSF. > Find out more

As a new platform for the exchange of semantic data, HEDERA is proving to be particularly useful - but not only - in the digital humanities, and is a vital first step towards making the most of this data via AI.

The HEDERA philosophy also means early support in the management of your active data, by implementing best practices. To find out more, we offer BID training courses. > Find out more

YARETA archiving, internationally certified

UNIGE's YARETA digital solution for long-term archiving and preservation of research data has recently been awarded international Core Trust Seal certification. This recognition is awarded by an international non-governmental organization dedicated to the development of infrastructures for sustainable and reliable data.

YARETA was developed at the instigation of the State of Geneva to facilitate your work as researchers, in particular the management and availability of research data. Designed in full compliance with the FAIR principles governing good practice in research data management, YARETA meets the data preservation requirements of funding agencies. > Find out more

High-volume storage

New high-volume storage services are also available. These UNIGE storage spaces offer a secure solution for active research data, with a capacity of several thousand terabytes on a state-of-the-art system. It includes advanced features such as monitoring, data replication to a backup site, and regular snapshots to guarantee data security.

Optimizing the open archive

The UNIGE Open Archive is also being enhanced with new features. The University of Geneva's institutional repository is designed to centralize all the scientific publications of its collaborators. Its benefits include easy access to all publications, automatic generation of bibliographies and web pages, improved visibility of work, enhancement of current research, preservation of institutional heritage, and participation in the Open Access movement.
