The Department of Cell Physiology and Metabolism was created in 2003 to strengthen fundamental research in physiology at the Faculty of Medicine. The research groups are focused on various facets of cell physiology, including intracellular signaling, intracellular transport, ion transport, cell division and cell metabolism. These research projects contribute notably to our understanding of metabolic diseases (e.g. diabetes), cancer and bacterial infections.
