I got my PhD degree from the University of Helsinki, then did a postdoc at the UC Berkeley. I started my own lab at EMBL, Heidelberg, before moving to the University of Geneva.

I am fascinated by dynamic protein machines, and by methods to visualize their function in living cells. Since my postdoc days, I have been working to understand the intricate molecular choreography of clathrin- and actin-mediated endocytosis. More recently, I have also become passionate about understanding how such molecular machines can evolve to adapt to different physiologies and environments.
