UNIGE project “RefFIT” wins a Venture Kick’s grant

150,000 CHF for faster, easier analysis of spectroscopic data in materials science.

RefFit an initiative from the University of Geneva, wins the third stage of Venture Kick and is rewarded for the development of software for the analysis of spectroscopic data of materials. This software provides solutions for users without requiring expert training, facilitates the exploitation and thus reduces time and costs in data analysis and model development. 

Congratulations to Iris Crassee, Nicole Ruckstuhl and Willem Rischau, researchers in the Department of Quantum Matter Physics, Physics Section, UNIGE, who have revealed the commercial potential of this software, invented 20 years ago by Alexey Kuzmenko, and won this Venture Kick! The Venture Kick initiative provides seed funding to Swiss startups and offers a well-structured entrepreneurial path toward building a winning company. 

RefFIT is used by customers for product and process development, quality control and sorting, in industries such as manufacturing, semiconductors, photonics or recycling. It provides a complete analysis solution based on scientific models, reducing the need for time-consuming calibrations in materials analysis.

Accessible as a web application and an API, RefFIT gains over 1,400 new users annually. With more than 400 thousand spectrometers in operation worldwide, the potential market is enormous. This Venture Kick will enable to invest in expanding the team and accelerating the development of RefFit products.
