Tribute to Prof. J.-P. Vernet (1930-2023)

The Department  F.-A. Forel for Environmental and Aquatic Sciences regrets to announce the passing away of Prof. Jean-Pierre Vernet, Honorary Professor of the University of Geneva, on July 11, 2023 in Morges, on the shores of Lake Geneva, the lake that was at the heart of his scientific research and which led him to found the F.-A. Forel Institute in 1980 within the Earth Sciences Section of the University of Geneva. In 2016, this Institute became a full Department, preserving the spirit of its founder, centered on interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding a system in order to better preserve it.
