A new project has been officially launched in partnership with Services Industriels de Genève, la Société suisse des Industriels de l’eau et du gaz and the Department F.-A. Forel of University of Geneva. With the increasing use of manufactured nanoparticles in consumer products (food, cosmetics, textiles, etc.), nanoparticles concentration is continuously increasing in natural environments in particularly in aquatic systems, which are the final receptacle for many pollutants. Considering the fact that aquatic systems are often used as a supply of drinking water, concerns arise over the fate of these nanoparticles through the water treatment process in drinking water production. In the framework of this project, we plan to investigate the efficiency and impact of different water purification process over manufactured nanoparticles and to evaluate their transformations. This project will be part of a PhD thesis of Lina Ramirez in the group of environmental physical-chemistry of the Department F.-A. Forel and supervised by Dr. Serge Stoll.
