Innovation projects can reinvent the UN

New research conducted by Prof. Tina Ambos and Katherine Tatarinov at the Geneva School of Economics and Management finds that innovative projects spearheaded by United Nations (UN) country offices are remodeling the institution and expanding its role. Digital initiatives were shown to have the strongest impact, changing ways of working, embedding new skills, and restructuring teams across the UN.
The paper,  published in the prestigious Journal of Management Studies, finds that centrally scaled-up innovations can lead to ‘mission stretch’ – the expansion of an organization’s purpose. These innovative projects carried out within UN entities can drive institutional change and foster a culture of entrepreneurship in the entire organization.
