Post-doctoral position in human translational neuro-immunology

Location: Jandus Lab, University of Geneva, Faculty of Medicine, Switzerland
Start Date: July 1st, 2026 (or by agreement)
Application Deadline: April 30th, 2026

About the Lab

The Jandus Lab (www.janduslab.com), part of the Geneva Translational Oncology Centre and the Geneva Centre of Inflammation Research, is internationally recognised for its expertise in human immunology research. Their work spans fundamental and translational research, from tumour immunology to emerging areas at the interface of neuroscience and immunity (Trabanelli, Akselrod, et al., Nat Neuro, 2025, link).

Project Overview

The team is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to lead a study investigating the potential use of virtual reality (VR) to modulate immune responses to bee and wasp allergens in allergic patients. Key objectives include:

  • Understanding how VR-based stimuli, perceived by the brain, influence innate and adaptive immune responses
  • Comparing these effects with conventional allergy desensitisation strategies

The project is interdisciplinary, integrating neuroscience, immunology, and clinical allergy research.

Work Environment

The position is based at the Centre Médical Universitaire (CMU), with collaborations involving:

  • University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG): access to patient samples and VR medicine expertise
  • Campus Biotech: advanced neural analyses, including fMRI

The team benefits from support from an experienced bioinformatician for advanced data analysis and access to state-of-the-art technological platforms.

Techniques and Responsibilities

The candidate will employ cutting-edge techniques, including:

  • Spectral and multicolour flow cytometry
  • RNA sequencing / scRNA-seq and metabolomics
  • In vitro functional assays to validate VR-modulated immune signatures
  • Data integration across clinical cohorts, in collaboration with clinicians and bioinformaticians

Candidate Profile

They are looking for a candidate with:

  • PhD in neuroimmunology, neuroscience, or related fields (translational immunology, vaccinology, inflammation, infectious disease)
  • Strong expertise in multicolour flow cytometry; familiarity with spectral flow is an advantage
  • Experience handling human blood and serum samples and performing immune functional assays
  • Knowledge of neural modulation of immune responses is a plus
  • Proficiency in English; French is advantageous
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

Contract and Benefits

  • Initial 1-year contract with potential extension for up to 3 years
  • Salary: scale 14 of the Geneva state salary scale
  • Multicultural, collaborative environment at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva

How to Apply

Please send your application, including:

  • Motivation letter
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • List of publications
  • Diplomas and references
