What is SmartLab?
Starting in 2021, as part of the SmartLab Project, the Faculty of Medicine began deploying in its laboratories an electronic tool for tracking research activities: the eLabNext tool developed by the company SciSure.
eLabNext is both an Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) and a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This tool helps facilitate the daily work of research teams and faculty platforms, and ensures compliance with the legal traceability requirements governing research. eLabNext offers numerous advantages:
- Structuring and organizing information
- Data accessibility and information sharing within the laboratory or between research teams
- Tools for sample and experiment traceability
- Facilitated implementation of the SNSF Data Management Plan
- Standardization of procedures within the Faculty of Medicine to ensure consistent quality
- Improved reproducibility of results and reduced human error
- Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
eLabNext provides:
- A functional interface for quick onboarding
- A tool adaptable to the specific needs of a large number of laboratories
- A mobile application (Android and iOS) to facilitate data access
The support team is available to researchers for any questions or information requests, to advise and train teams, and to accompany them in the implementation of this tool.
Cost of eLabNext
A financial contribution is required from research groups wishing to implement and use the system.
This includes system licenses, support, and maintenance.
The flat rate is CHF 300.– per year for the entire research group.
Other system operation costs are covered by the Faculty.
