Gilles Marchand

A sociologist by training (M.A.), Gilles Marchand worked at the Tribune de Genève from 1988 to 1990. He then joined Ringier Romandie as head of the Research, Marketing and Communications department before taking over as head of the group in 1998. He joined SSR in 2001, first heading Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) from 2001 to 2010 before taking over as head of Radiotélévision Suisse (RTS), a position he held until 2017. In October 2017, he became Director General of SSR, a position he will hold until the end of 2024.  After having been a member of the Executive Board of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), he worked with this international organisation as a Senior Consultant. On 1 March 2025, he joined the GCP team to head the Media and Philanthropy Initiative (IMP).
