Safet Kubat
Safet Kubat is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Geneva (Institute for Citizenship Studies). He earned his PhD in 2024 at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Sarajevo. His doctoral dissertation focused on the study and establishment of socio-ecological boundaries in correlation with the commons as a method for resource preservation at the city level.
Within this framework, he developed a transformative doughnut economy model and a City Portrait model (GEB), which includes more than 400 indicators.
Kubat is the founder of one of the largest ecological movements in the Balkans – Rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Be the Change (62,000 members), where he connects citizen science and academia with concrete social activism.
He is a recipient of the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for his postdoctoral studies. His research project is titled: Development of a transformative citizen-participatory doughnut model as a potential for socio-environmental policies in Bosnia and Herzegovina/corelate with Switzerland.
