Is fracking harmful to the environment ?

It can be, but usually isn’t. Two University of Geneva geologists extensively review the literature on this question. Their conclusion is that while there can be damage, any single well is unlikely to cause much. This means that science cannot provide an answer. Rather, whether to allow fracking must be decided politically, using the science as one component of a more broadly based decision.
