Gioia Cacchioli holds a BA in Arabic Studies, Linguistics and English Language and Literature and an MA in the latter discipline from the University of Geneva.
After completing a Certificat de Spécialisation en Linguistique in September 2019, she has started her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Ur Shlonsky.
Gioia's main areas of interest are theoretical syntax, comparative syntax and the syntax of Semitic languages. More specifically, her research focuses on relative clauses, quantificational structures and other nominal modifiers in Tigrinya (a Semitic language spoken in Eritrea and Ethiopia) within the cartographic approach.
