Alexander Hock's research lies in mathematical physics, at the intersection of algebraic geometry, noncommutative geometry, topology, combinatorics, and probability theory in mathematics, as well as string theory, quantum field theory, and gravity in physics. He received his PhD in 2020 from the University of Münster, where he remained for an additional year as a postdoc. From 2021 to 2024, he was based at the University of Oxford as a Walter Benjamin research fellow by the DFG, followed by a year (2024–2025) at the University of Heidelberg. In 2025, he began his position at the University of Geneva, funded by an Ambizione grant awarded to him by the SNSF.
