From fragmentation to fusion
Scientific rigour, international outlook and a commitment to serving life
Designed as an innovation and collaboration accelerator, the GCCVR brings together over 40 researchers from clinical medicine, translational research, fundamental science, engineering, and data sciences. Together, they share a common goal: to reinvent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular research in Geneva to save even more lives.
Launched in November 2025, the Geneva Centre for Cardiac and Vascular Research (GCCVR) is a joint initiative of the University of Geneva Faculty of Medicine and the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG). It aims to become internationally-significant research centre dedicated to understanding, preventing, and treating cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death in Switzerland and worldwide.
The GCCVR transforms diverse expertise into an integrated model where fundamental science directly fuels clinical practice. The centre leverages the cutting-edge scientific infrastructures available at the University Medical Center (CMU), the HUG and the Campus Biotech, and a network of national and European partners. The GCCVR wants to make the heart of Geneva's research beat stronger. By uniting fundamental and clinical forces, it is creating a true ecosystem where ideas can flow as freely as blood through healthy arteries.
