Luc Mallet is a psychiatrist and researcher in neuroscience, Professor of Psychiatry at Paris Est Créteil University. He has been Professor Assistant in the University Department of Psychiatry in UPEC (Créteil) and UPMC (Pitié-Salpêtrière) and worked on functional imaging at the CEA. After his post-doctoral training in experimental psychology at the CNRS, he was recruited at the INSERM in 2004 then promoted research director in 2009 to study the behavioral aspects of the deep brain stimulation in human, and to develop innovative treatments in psychiatry. Since 2008, he has headed the BEBG (Behavior, Emotion, Basal Ganglia) team (Neurophysiology of Repetitive Behaviors), in the Brain Institute (ICM), wherein the main focus of research is the identification of processes involved in the treatment of information by the basal ganglia and its links to psychopathology as well as the development of innovative treatments for severe neuropsychiatric disorders that are resistant to medical therapy. In particular, he coordinates a series of translational research projects aimed at characterizing the pathophysiology of repeated pathological behaviors in humans, including obsessive-compulsive disorder. His research program also addresses the use of new technologies to optimize treatments, personalize care, and avoid the isolation of people with a mental disorder.

He has been also involved in numerous institutions aiming to promote the research in psychiatry: the FondaMental Foundation, and the steering committee of Labex Biopsy. He is member of the executive committee of the French Congress of Psychiatry (CFP) and has been its president in 2014.

He is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva and Director of the Fondamental Suisse Foundation since 2015. He received the Marcel Dassault Prize for research in mental health in 2013, and the Philippe and Maria Halphen Great Prize of the French Academy of Sciences in 2015, rewarding his work on brain dysfunctions underlying obsessive-compulsive disorder and the development of innovative multidisciplinary therapeutic approaches.
