Summer School (ISSAS)

Program 2009

The first ISSAS will take place from August 24 to September 3, 2009, with the following agenda:

Mon Aug 24th evening: welcome and first meal about 20:00

Program: Methodology

The methodology period will be organized in half-day sessions. During each session, the speakers will give an overview of different methods, explaining their advantages, limitations and domains of application. This period will not involve intensive "hands-on" training in research techniques. Instead, it is aimed at giving the participants a clear understanding of the tools that they will encounter in their research and reading.

Question: It is possible to do robust statistics with "SPSS" using the syntax?
Answer: One has to call "R" to work into "SPSS" and may then use robust statistics. However, in this case I would recommend to use "R" itself.

Program: Theory

The theory period, focusing on "Emotion Elicitation: Appraisal, Values and Norms" in 2009, will be organized in one-day sessions with one speaker and one discussant per

day. Speakers will come from different disciplinary backgrounds. They will be free to respond to each other's presentations so as to foster scientific exchange. The members of the Scientific Committee will also serve as discussants. They will have a dedicated period of time to discuss each invited faculty member's contribution and present their own approach to the issues involved. Participants will have ample opportunity to interact with the invited faculty during discussion sessions. Faculty members will also be encouraged to meet individually with participants who have a particular interest in their approach.
