Curriculum vitae

 

M. Gellera a obtenu son doctorat en histoire de la philosophie à l’Université de Glasgow en 2012, avec une thèse intitulée Natural Philosophy in the Graduation Theses of the Scottish Universities in the First Half of the Seventeenth Century. Entre 2010 et 2014, il a été Network Facilitator pour le projet international Scottish Philosophers in Seventeenth-Century Scotland and France, financé par The Leverhulme Trust. Ce projet a relié les universités de Glasgow, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Paris-Sorbonne, Clermont-Ferrand et Fribourg pour la première investigation systématique de la philosophie écossaise du XVII^ème siècle. Il a également amené à la publications notamment de deux ouvrages: History of Universities XIX/2 (2017) et Scottish Philosophy in the Seventeenth Century (OUP 2020).

Après un Visiting Fellowship à l’Université de Fribourg, il a participé comme post-doc au projet FNS de Christian Maurer Tolerance, Intolerance and Discrimination regarding Religion (2016-2020), à l’Université de Lausanne. Dans le cadre de ce projet il s'est occupé de thématiques de tolérance religieuse et politique à l’époque moderne: avec Christian Maurer, il a dirigé un numéro spécial de Global Intellectual History V.2 (2019): Contexts of Religious Tolerance: New Perspectives from Early Modern Britain and Beyond.

Giovanni Gellera était également en charge, en collaboration avec Alexander Broadie, de la rédaction de l’édition critique et de la traduction du manuscrit Idea philosohiae moralis (1679) du juge et philosophe écossais James Dundas, le premier Lord Arniston (c.1620-1679), à paraître en collaboration avec Edinburgh University Press.

Giovanni Gellera a rejoint l’IHR dans le cadre du projet FNS A Disregarded Past - Medieval Scholasticism and Reformed Thought, avec Ueli Zahnd, Arthur Huiban et Zachary Seals.

 

Domaines de recherche

Époque moderne: scolastique réformée, scolastique écossaise, histoire de la philosophie académique, rapports entre scolastique et philosophie “moderne” (Cartésianisme, Lumières écossaises), influence de la pensée théologique sur la philosophie, histoire et réception du Scotisme, la philosophie de James Dundas (c.1620-1679).
