A great talk from Prof. Markus Affolter
The embryonic development of tissues and organs is a complex process controlled to a large extent by cell-cell signaling. Its study may provide valuable evidence for understanding the healing process after disease or injury.
The PHYM department had the pleasure of welcoming Prof. Markus AFFOLTER from the Biozentrum (University of Basel) on Friday November 29th. He studies how do cellular networks develop since several years.
He presented his recent investigations on the underlying cellular and molecular processes of embryonic development of the tracheal system of Drosophila melanogaster and of the vascular network of the zebrafish. Using live imaging of cell-cell junctions as well as protein manipulation with nanobodies, they have been able to build 3D models describing precisely these processes.
